About Us

Jonathan Harris - Regional Officer

Jonathan is a West Midlands Regional Officer and has two sons with autism. He studied autism at Birmingham University and has been involved with the NAS for over four years and is currently working with the NAS in the development of the new West Midlands Regional Office based in Solihull.

“I believe that it is essential to engage with everyone who has an involvement with autism. Whether you are a parent or carer, a professional or maybe even an individual within the spectrum, each and every one of us has something to give in order to raise public awareness and to provide a better life for those whose lives are touched by this lifelong condition”

Allison Clarke - Branch Treasurer

Allison was founder and Chair of Speak Out which was formed in June 2003 within the East Birmingham area. She has two sons, one within the autistic spectrum. Her drive and determination is unsurpassed and is matched by her care and compassionate approach especially to the parent/carer members of the group.

“When my son was diagnosed with Autism I was determined to find out more about the disorder so that I could help others even if to my own detriment. There was very little information, help or support available for parents so my quest to discover more led to me to form the support group ‘Speak Out’ has been a wonderful ambassador to our community. As well as promoting awareness, I am confident that the support and services that we provide make our children’s lives more comfortable. Some families have no idea of the isolation that an autistic child can feel but if they know how to cope with the condition, the whole family can enjoy a much higher quality of life”

Christine Cox - Secretary

Chris has a grandson with autism and is aware of how it can impact upon even the extended family. Her dedication to her family is commendable and shows how much members of the family can help and be involved. Chris and her husband show love and commitment to all of their family and can identify with the issues and difficulties that are just a part of what faces parents who have loved ones with ASD.

“I am Christine Cox, a wife, mother to two daughters and grandmother to five adorable grandchildren. Being the secretary within the group is a role that I am willing to fulfil. Having a grandson with autism is no different to any of my other grandchildren. We show the same amount of love and have the same amount of fun together. The group has proved to be invaluable in supporting young and old alike and I will continue to provide as much dedication as I can to the role.”

Jonathan Hackitt - Play Supervisor

Jon is our Play Supervisor and his role within the group is unique as he has Asperger syndrome and lives independently with assistance. His contribution to the group is valuable and very important. We are grateful to Jon for his inimitable insight into how someone with this condition can deal with everyday life.
